The BreastScreen program, provided by the federal government allows women aged 50-69 to have free bi-yearly screening mammograms. Women who are eligible do not require and GP to refer and can self refer to Breast Screen. Women aged 40-49 are able to have free breast screening mammograms with BreastScreen every two years. Contact BreastScreen Australia on 13 20 50 to make an appointment or for more information.
Discuss with you GP your risk of breast cancer and whether breast screening mammograms is required. If it is, we'll give you 70% benefit on the cost of a screening mammogram not covered by BreastScreen.
To claim back on your health insurance, send a copy of the receipt for your screening mammogram, together with a completed claim form to Australian unity.
