Falling health insurance rebates causing angst over means testing

Article excerpt:

MELBOURNE businessman Ben Willee's family is about to increase, and so are his private health insurance premiums. The looming birth of a second child makes private medical cover more critical to him and wife Olivia than ever, he says, but with a combined income in excess of $150,000, it will cost them considerably more come July next year. The Rudd Government's decision to cut the 30 per cent rebate on private health insurance premiums for high-income families has incensed him.

The changes will mean families earning more than $150,000 get a 20 per cent rebate, those above $180,000 get a 10 per cent rebate, and those above $240,000 will pay their full premium.
