A PLAN to means test the 30 per cent private health fund rebate looks set to be defeated in the Senate.
... The measure announced in last year's Budget is being opposed by the Opposition and independents in the Senate. They claim it breaches a Labor election promise. The means test would hit individuals earning over $75,000 and families earning more than $150,000 who would start to have their 30 per cent rebate withdrawn. Those individuals earning more than $120,000 and families earning more than $240,000 would get no rebate at all under the proposed means test.
The Government says taxpayers should not be subsidising the health insurance costs of millionaire Australians.
