Article excerpt:
Australia's biggest health insurance provider has slashed benefits to potentially hundreds of thousands of members. Medibank Private has cut a range of costly procedures, including heart operations, hip replacements and assisted reproductive services, from one of its basic packages.
... Medibank spokeswoman Sarah Chibnall denied the changes were part of a cost-cutting measure.
"In the past six months there have only been 2000 claims for those (restricted service claims) when you put them up against the 950,000 claims we pay for hospital admissions alone," Ms Chibnall said.
Ms Chibnall added: "Private health insurance is complex enough as it is."
