HUNDREDS of thousands of Australians without private health insurance will be hit with a higher tax penalty by the Gillard Government. The Government announced plans for the higher surcharge in 2009 but was unable to win Senate approval. That will change from July next year when the Greens control the Senate. The Greens want to abolish the 30 per cent tax break for private health insurance and voted with the Government last year to approve the changes..
