Article excerpt:
FEDERAL Health Minister Nicola Roxon says she expects the Senate will approve her government's plan to means-test private health insurance. Labor announced in the budget means-testing for the 30 per cent rebate would kick in when singles earned more than $74,000 or families had combined incomes of $150,000. The rebate would be reduced on a sliding scale before cutting out completely once an individual earns more than $120,000 and couples more than $240,000.
The coalition has vowed to oppose the measure and the government will be relying on key cross-bench senators to secure the legislation's passage into law.
