Article excerpt:
Health Minister Nicola Roxon confirmed on Sunday the Government had sought advice about the technicalities of bringing Parliament back in early December to vote on its push to means test the private health insurance rebate. But she denied the move was designed to trigger an early election. "We're not looking for a double dissolution measure, we're looking to get the bill passed," she told ABC Television. The Government was determined to see the changes made law before the end of the year, Ms Roxon said.
Its changes would force rebates for singles earning more than $75,000 a year, and couples earning more than $150,000 to be means tested, while also increasing the Medicare levy for wealthier people without cover.
