WA's largest private health insurer HBF has quashed speculation about a merger with UK-owned Bupa, which could have created the country's largest health fund. The Australian Financial Review reported the possible merger today, saying that Bupa was in discussions with HBF which would overtake Medibank Private as the nation’s largest health insurer. In an internal memo to staff, HBF managing director Rob Bransby said he wanted to make it absolutely clear that “this is nonsense”.
