Save on tax with hospital cover
Most Australians are subject to a Medicare Levy of 1.5% of their taxable income. An additional 1% tax, the Medicare Levy Surcharge, is imposed on:
- individuals earning more than $80,000 per year *
- couples and families with a combined income of more than $160,000 per year *
You can avoid paying the Surcharge by taking out Private Hospital Cover, which in some cases, could be less than the surcharge itself. In order to be eligible, your cover must have an excess no greater than $500 per year for singles or $1,000 per year for couples/families. Extras only cover does not qualify.
